Remit2India is having a promotions where they are guaranteeing to match anyone who is offering exchange rates better than them. This seems like a great promotion. Their website also has comparison of their rates and ICICI bank rates. Remit2India is claiming to give few cents more than ICICI. In the past I have found ICICI to offer best rates. If remit2India is offering better than ICICI then folks transferring large amount should definitely consider them.

Looks like with Rupee appreciating against dollar so strongly, lots of people has started demanding better rates from money transfer services and this is showing effect.

the best way avoid paying commission for these third party companies is to write a personal check in USD to someone in india.
the person in india can go and deposit that check and get that days rate. best rate, but again you are never going to get the exact exchange rate its going to be slightly less since they do that for their safety since the currency rates keep changing every minute. its their way of assuring they don't lose their money.
Clearing of a US check in India takes around 3-4 weeks of time. And you will get exchange rate for the day on which your check gets cleared. Rates can change a lot in 4 weeks.
I recently transferred 2k thro remit2india at 39.03/$. Service is ok. They delivered within 5 days.

I am surprised to hear that Remit2India service is ok.
Oh...my God, I had hard transferring money through them.
What a tension? I really screwed my mental health trying to transfer money through them. They almost took a month to credit the money in the benificiary's account. I had to do so many follow-up to track where my money is and when it will be transferred. They had good for nothing people in their customer service. They hardly take customer calls and never respond to customer emails.
I would stay clear from Remit2India.
Remit2India is a fraud company, which though show higher conversion price in its site as compared to other money transferred company but do not give the same rate.
I have checked with my two transaction that i had with Remit2India, I continuously watched all 5 days of transaction period for the conversion rate but i got less conversion rate than they claim to be on third day of transaction.
This is my advice not to go with this site since they are making public fool by showing higher rate but the actual rate is always less than they claim.
I am using Remit2India for last few years. Earlier it was fine but my last two remittances in September never made to target account in India. When I sent email about the problem, they are not responding
